Books for Bikes program winners announced

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站The Books for Bikes reading program for Shields Valley Elementary School students in kindergarten through sixth grade was held Feb. 4-18. It is sponsored by the Masonic Lodge of Wilsall and the Women of Wilsall. 

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Students earned certificates for a drawing by reading outside the classroom. One certificate qualifies a student for a book prize and seven certificates for a chance at winning a bike and helmet. 

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Kindergarten through third grade students read for 15 minutes for each certificate, and fourth through sixth grade read 20 minutes for each certificate. The kindergarten through third grade tallied a total of 11,820 minutes this year while fourth through sixth grade read for a total of 20,140 minutes.

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Awards were given Feb. 18 at the Shields Valley Elementary School in Wilsall. Bike winners were: kindergarten, Ian Hinton; first grade, Kessa Funk; second grade, Anna Hamm; third grade, Addison Lookhart; fourth grade,  Graesin Hamm; fifth grade, Kyla Mather; and sixth grade, Danner McDuffie.

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Gift certificates given for most minutes read went to third-graders Otto Pospichal, Jasper Johnstone and Karson Bennett; fourth-grader Andrew Long; and sixth-graders Anna Collins, and Alicia Hunt.

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站The Masonic Lodge of Wilsall provides the bikes and helmets for the winners and the Women of Wilsall provide books for the other readers. The school provided the gift certificates.

 

Watershed Group

The Shields Valley Watershed Group meets at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at the Wilsall Fire Department building. 

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Agenda items include NRCS TIP Discussion with Ted Nelson and Dave Molebash. NRCS has transitioned to a more focused approach in delivering the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) with Targeted Implementation Plans (TIPs) addressing local natural resource concerns. 

These TIPs are locally driven and have clearly defined outcomes that achieve landscape goals.  NRCS is seeking input for future TIPs and would like to start the discussion at the Shields Valley Watershed Group meeting on February 24th. 

The regular watershed business meeting will commence after the presentation with committee, coordinator and agency updates.

 

School elections

Shields Valley School District has two three-year term school board trustee positions open in 2020. 

Candidates must be a resident of the school district. Anyone wishing to be  placed on the trustee ballot at the May school election may pick up the necessary forms from the District Clerk Rhonda Lahaye at the Wilsall school. 

All forms must be signed and filed with the Clerk of the District by March 26, 2020.

Senior potluck

The Shields Valley Senior Citizens potluck dinner starts at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Senior Center in Wilsall. Jenny Jo Allen from ASPEN will tell about their services. There may also be some bingo playing.

 

Church news

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站Paul Seastrand of Wilsall will be the guest speaker at the 9 a.m. service Sunday, Feb. 23, at Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall.

 

Craft group

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站A craft group will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at the Shields Valley Senior Center in Wilsall. Bring something to work on or come and visit.

 

Science Fair

The Shields Valley Elementary School Science Fair starts at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5, in the school gym.

 

Cards

Winners of the Feb. 18 Senior Citizens card party were Georgia Hogenson, first; Marge Briggs, second; Betty Burdette, low.

 

 School schedule

2020欧洲杯体育官方网站• Feb. 20-22: The District Basketball Tournament will be at Manhattan Christian. The junior high boys basketball team plays in the Sleeping Giant Middle School Tournament in Livingston. 

• Feb. 20: The boys play at 3 p.m. and the girls play at 6 p.m. in the first games of the District Basketball Tournament.
